Ayacucho, cuna de artesanos, guitarristas y danzarines de tijeras, es la ciudad con mayor cantidad de iglesias del Perú, posee 33 templos coloniales de piedra con diversos estilos arquitectónicos, por eso es llamada “La ciudad de las iglesias”. En el pasado, fue cuna de las culturas Warpa y Wari.

Ayacucho, Peru

La ciudad fue fundada en 1540, con el nombre de San Juan de la Frontera de Huamanga. En el siglo XVII, al igual que Lima y Cusco, se convirtió en un centro de talleres de pintura que abastecía de obras de arte a la corona. Más tarde, fue punto clave de la independencia americana, en sus alrededores se libró la batalla más importante de esa época, la batalla de Ayacucho.

En el siglo XX, década de los 80, la ciudad fue convulsionada por el terrorismo. Hoy Ayacucho es nuevamente pacífica y espera al viajero con brazos alegres.

Vilcashuamán – 117 Km.of Ayacucho. Important management center of the Incas. Famous piece is the throne of the Inca and his wife.

San Cristobal Church - On 28 de Julio Street block 6. Dating from 1540, The temple was the first built in the city of Ayacucho.
