Trekking in the Galapagos Islands is an unforgettable experience
Day 01: Arrival
Arrive in Quito. Assistance and transfer from the airport to the hotel Patio Andaluz. The four stars Hotel Patio Andaluz is a national treasure that holds history within its walls. Situated in the heart of the historic Old City of Quito, which was declared the first cultural heritage of the world by UNESCO in 1978, the hotel is surrounded by churches, museums, and national monuments. It is a marvellous colonial building dating back to the foundation of Quito, and has been beautifully and meticulously restored. Enjoy the enchantment of this elegant, 31-room boutique hotel, with wide corridors, expansive stairways, large arches, balconies, and towering atrium-style patios, which lend to the feeling of a long-ago Quito. Welcome cocktail, briefing and accommodations at the hotel. -/-/-

Day 02: Quito City Tour
Today you explorer the colonial centre of Quito starting with a visit of the St. Augustine Convent, its Colonial patio, cloisters, coffered ceilings and the vast collection of paintings showing the life of St. Augustine. Visit Independence Plaza flanked by the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, the Municipal Building and the Archbishop’s Palace. Continue to the Church of San Francisco, one of the greatest religious buildings of the New World. Its impressive façade and atrium lead to its gild interior, a Baroque influence by Moorish style, with the winged Virgin of Quito at its main altar. Later you drive to the northern modern part of Quito to the city park “La Carolina” in order to visit the botanical garden of Quito where you will get a good impression of the great diversity of the Ecuadorian Flora. Accommodation at the hotel Patio Andaluz. B/L/D

Day 03: Flight Quito – Baltra – Isabela Island
In the morning you will drive to the airport and from there on to the Island of Baltra. With a small helicopter it continues to the Island of Isabela. Transfer to Hotel la Casa de Marita, where you will be welcomed and you will be shown to your room. You will have lunch and the afternoon can be spending according to your own wishes. For example, you can relax on the beautiful beach. B/-/D

Day 04: Wednesday: Excursion to the volcano Sierra Negra

Along the foothills of the volcano Sierra Negra the transfer brings you in the island’s highlands. Right there you begin you hike uphill to the edge of the caldera of the tremendous volcano. The hike leads you out of the dense bushes to the not grown landscape of the volcano and its colded lava flows. From here you can enjoy a fantastic view on the north part of the island and the volcanoes Alcedo and Wolf. Afterwards you hike back to have lunch at a typical highland farm before returning in the afternoon back to Villamil. Rest of the day on personal disposal and overnight in the hotel La Casa de Marita. B/L/D

Day 05: Thursday: Kayak trip and Mangroves
In the morning you will do a relaxing kayak trip in Harbour basin. Apart from sea lions and pelicans you are going to visit the penguin colony on the small island of „Las Tintoreras“. Hike through bizarre lava formations and get in touch with the huge local iguana colonies. In the afternoon you get the chance to discover a mangrove forest in „La Concha Perla“ bay as well as the sea life. Dinner and accommodation in the Hotel La Casa de Marita. B/L/D

Day 06: Saturday: Flamingos and giant turtles
In the morning you will go on an excursion in the island’s hinterland to visit the flamingo lagoon. In the marshland you can observe black-necked stilts, herons and Galapagos pintails. After it the trip leads you to the turtle raising station on Isabella, where endangered species could have been secured of dying out. The following hike through a diverse flora ends at the beach and finally at the hotel. The entire afternoon is on your personal disposal. Overnight in the hotel La Casa de Marita. B/L/D

Day 07: Devil’s crone and Floreana’s Post office
Today your tour starts from San Cristobal by boat to the devil’s crone "La Corona del Diablo“ located close the island of floreana. Here you will enjoy the outstanding snorkelling grounds while bird’s circle over your heads. After an extensive adventure with doctor fish, lip fish and other colourful fish you will visit the famous post office bay were on a delicate beach stands a post office, which was established in 1793 by the English captain Colnett and offers you the opportunity to send letters, when its destination is on someone’s route. In the afternoon you reach the small port of Puerto Velasco Ibarra where you are going to spend your night in the Hostal Wittmer. B/L/D

Day 08: Highland vegetation and black sanded beaches
Today’s excursion leads you in the highlands of Floreana where you will visit a fresh water lake, a pirate cave and the first farm of Floreana. While hiking around the highlands Darwin finches, yellow warblers and Galapagos fly snappers circle around and the guide will tell you bizarre stories about the early inhabitants of Floreana. In the afternoon you get the opportunity to swim at the black sanded beaches of the hotel bay or doing a walk along the beach to the sea lion colony „La Loberia“. The Hostal Wittmer where you spend the night is today managed by the daughter and grandchild of the famous book author of "Floreana – Postlagernd“ Margaret Wittmer. B/L/D

Day 09: From Floreana to Santa Cruz
You drive by boat in the north direction to the Santa Cruz Island, where you will stay in the Finch Bay Eco-hotel. Santa Cruz is the second largest island in the Galapagos. The small town of Puerto Ayora is the economic centre of the archipelago, with the largest population of the 4 inhabited islands (approx 10.000). In the afternoon you will visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and the Galapagos National Park offices. The station is also a tortoise breeding and rearing centre, where tortoises of different subspecies are prepared for reintroduction to their natural habitats. The most popular inhabitant of this island will probably be Lonesome George. He is the only survivor of the specific turtle species. B/L/D

Day 10: Bartolomé Island
Departure from the Hotel is at 5:15am. A bus will be waiting at the public dock to take you to the Itabaca Channel to board the excursion boat. The navigation is approximately 20 miles. Breakfast and lunch will be served on board. Bartolomé is one of the most scenic areas in the Islands. Much of the attraction here is geological in nature. The famous “Pinnacle Rock” is found here. From the top of the island where the visitor trail ends is a spectacular view of much of the archipelago. The trail is a fairly steep climb on 365 well-maintained wooden steps. A handrail is available for a little extra support. There is a beautiful golden sand beach, which provides a great opportunity for snorkelling. The small and playful Galapagos penguins are often seen around the island. Guests will navigate to Itabaca Channel where the bus is waiting for the journey to Puerto Ayora. You will arrive back at the Hotel between 5pm and 6pm.

Day 11: North Seymour Island and Las Bachas Beach (Santa Cruz Island)
Departure from the Hotel is at 7:45. A bus will be waiting at the public dock to take you approximately 26 miles to the Itabaca Channel to board the boat. The navigation is approximately 6 miles. Lunch will be served on board. North Seymour is a small island north of Baltra. It is part of a complex of uplifted islands that includes Baltra and Mosquera. The major vegetation is shrubby and includes an endemic form of the Palo Santo tree. The largest colony of magnificent frigate birds nests on this island. Blue-footed boobies also nest on the visitor trails. The beach area is a perfect location for observing California sea lions and shore birds. Occasionally, you can watch the sea lions surf the waves on this beach. Prepare for a dry landing. The water is often slightly choppy here so, be sure you have a good handgrip with your guide when embarking and disembarking. The trail is about 1.6km with frequent stops for wildlife observation.

At Las Bachas Beach you will visit a major nesting area for sea turtles. They breed and feed in the nearby Black Turtle Cove. Flamingos and lagoon birds can occasionally be found in a brackish lagoon behind the beach. There is a small outlying island where great blue herons commonly nest. This beach was used by US troops stationed in Baltra as a recreational beach during WWII. Prepare for a wet landing on the white sand beach of Bachas. This visit provides an opportunity to enjoy a beautiful open beach. Bring along your snorkelling gear.

You will return the same way as the outbound journey and arrive back at the hotel between 4pm and 5pm.

Day 12: Back to the Andes
In the morning you cross the highlands of Santa Cruz and the canal of Itabaca to reach the airport of Baltra where you take your flight back to Quito. After the transfer to the hotel Patio Andaluz the afternoon in Quito will be on your own disposal. B/-/-

Day 13:Friday: Return home
In the morning we will accompany you to Quito International Airport and say goodbye - until the next time! B/-/-
