And for those of you who want to discover the country on the back of a horse, from the top of volcanos, on a bike or simply with a guide, we offer all the kinds of activities you can do here Biking in the Middle of the world: from the Amazon to the Pacific coast:

Day 01.-

Arrival in Quito and transfer to the hotel: Accommodation in a colonial house (Hostal Palm Garten, Café Cultura, la Rabida or similar) in double rooms with all facilities. (DEPENDING ON THE ARRIVAL TIME) In the afternoon we will visit the old town in the south of Quito which was declared by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1978. In the evening we will enjoy a welcome cocktail during a detailed briefing about the trip itinerary.

Day 02.-

Spectacular day-long ride over the eastern ridge of the Andes to the Amazon via Tena. We will arrive to the Isla Amazonica Resort at aprox. 3:00 pm. In the afternoon we will visit a close by Indian Community to learn more about their culture and their way of living. For dinner we will return to our lodge. Subsequently we will take a walk through primary rainforest to watch the insects and nocturnal animals of the jungle.

Day 03.-

Today we will take part in a canoe excursion. Descend the Napo river by canoe to visit a Zoological Park. You will get a great impression of the wildlife in this region. We will stop for lunch on a sunny riverbank and you have the option to take a refreshing bath in the river. For dinner we will return to our lodge and you have the unique opportunity to take part in a shamanic ritual demonstration.

Day 04.-

After breakfast we leave from the lodge by bus to Tena and start our rafting trip to the upper Rio Napo. This is also known locally as the Rio Jatunyacu, which means "Big Water" in Quichua. Big is probably the best word to describe this river, big water, big waves and big fun! The adventure begins where the road ends in a remote spot in the jungle. This is the highest accessible point of the Rio Napo. Only a handful of scattered Quichua families live this far in. The fun begins immediately with large rapids and roller-coaster size waves, intermingled with some calm pools that give you a chance to fully relax, and take in the spectacular scenery. This is our most popular rafting trip. No previous rafting experience is necessary (Class III rafting, about 25 km). Lunch en route and in the afternoon we return to Tena and finally to the Lodge for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 05.-

Today we start our Cycling adventure. We cycle in tropical rain forest for 4 hours and then continue by car to the mountain village of Baños. We will drive through the jungle frontier town of Puyo following a dirt road bordered by steep ravines up the spectacular Pastaza River Valley to Baños. The resort town Baños is famous for its hot springs and easygoing hospitality. Dinner and accommodation at the Hotel Sangay.

Day 06.-

Enjoy Baños: after Breakfast we go for a biking tour along the “the Waterfalls road”. In the afternoon you can go swimming in the hot springs or discover the streets and beautiful places of Baños with all their little artshops. Don’t miss a visit of the famous church from la “Virgen de Agua Santa”.Dinner and accommodation again at the Hotel Sangay.

Day 07.-

After breakfast we will go to the train station of Riobamba where our breathtaking train ride will start. This line from the year 1902 is still a technical masterpiece and it is the steepest line of the world. On this historic steam train we will enjoy unbelievable views of valleys, pasturelands and picturesque towns along the way. At the most spectacular point the train descends a 600-meter vertical cliff known as the Devil's Nose. After the train adventure we will drive to Cuenca, a city renown for its colonial splendor. Stop en route to visit Ingapirca, Ecuador's most impressive Inca site. The name means in the Quechua language „stonewall of the Incas“. We will see the fine stonework and characteristic trapezoidal niches and doorways. Dinner and accommodation in Cuenca at the Hotel Dorado or similar.

Day 08.-

Today we will have a full day to explore the colonial town, museums and churches including the 17-Century flower market of Cuenca. The cobblestone streets emphasize the cosy athmosphere of this city which is known as the cultural metropole and center of art in Ecuador. Lunch at a typical ecuadorian restaurant. Dinner and accommodation at the Hostal Inca Real or similar.

Day 09.-

Today we will visit the outskirts of Cuenca by Bike. Charming villages such as Chordeleg and Gualaceo. They are famous for their weavings, authentic Panama hats, fine silver and gold jewellery and ceramics. Return to Cuenca by car for dinner and accommodation at the Hotel Dorado or similar.

Day 10.-

In the morning we will visit the Cajas National Park which is located aprox. 15 km west of Cuenca. Typical for the Cajas are the almost 200 lagunes and beautiful lakes which are the remains of the glacial epoch. This National Park is situated between 3150 m and 4450 m. We will a have a short hike in the area and after lunch we will return Cycling to Cuenca. Flight back to Quito over the Avenue of the Volcanoes. With good weather we will have a spectacular view of the snow-covered volcanoes. Transfer to our hotel in Quito.

Day 11.-

Transfer to the Northern Highlands along the Pan-American Highway with a green patchwork of fields rising up the slopes of extinct volcanoes, to reach the beautiful and 300 hundred year old Hacienda Cusin. Set in spacious landscaped grounds. Relax in the afternoon strolling through the gardens, horseback riding, playing volleyball or walking into the nearby town of San Pablo del Lago. If you want to ride into the market of Otavalo, you can get it ready this afternoon. Dinner and accommodation at Hacienda Cusin.

Day 12.-

Start the day early as we begin a counterclockwise bike circuit of Imbabura (4600m) with a nearly 500m climb eastward to the saddle between Imbabura and Cerro Cusin. Pedal up through Eucalyptus plantations, small farms and large estates on the mountain slopes. Herds of cattles and flocks of sheeps graze in lush green while breezes ripple through the golden wheat fields. We reach Zuleta for picnic lunch and in the afternoon we head back to Hacienda Pinsaqui. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 13.-

Chachimbiro hot springs: both, the landscape and the people, changes remarkably as we cycle north from Chorlavi with our packs to Imbabura Volcano. We will explore country lanes in the Salinas Valley where sugar cane is grown under irrigation in board, flat fields. Most of the people we see are descendants of African slaves. Housing styles reflect the cultural differences from the highland groups we have seen up to now. On the far side of the valley, we gradually ascend to the town of Tumbabiro, continuing upward to the beautiful Hosteria San Francisco, a covered country estate adjacent to the delightful natural hot springs of Chachimbiro.

Day 14.-

La Florida: This is one of the most spectacular days of the tour as we cycle more than 1.000m down the western slopes of the Andes into a subtropical zone. Our destination is a working farm at about 1.800m some 16 miles down from the highlands. As we descend we will see all phases of the process of destruction as virgin forest is reduced over several years to poor grazing land forcing the farmer to cut down more forest on aver-steeper slopes. We will leave our bicycles with support staff at the hamlet of Santa Rosa and walk about an hour down a muddy trail alongside the Toabunchi River to the la Florida farm. Accommodations are in simple wooden cabins with outdoor plumbing. We will dine with our hosts in the main farmhouse.

Day 15.-

After breakfast we bike down to the road at Santa Rosa and continue to San Lorenzo on the Coast. where we will spend the night in a Hostal. Dinner and accommodation.

Day 16.-

By Motor Canoe we continue throughout the Mangrows chanels to La Tola and from here continue cycling for a few hours to Esmeraldas. Picnic lunch on route. Finally we drive to the charming Beach of Atacames where we will stay for dinner and overnight.

Day 17.-

Beach !!! Cocktails, Beach !!! Cocktails and Beach !!!
